Mission
Embodiment Coaching rejects the idea that there is one ‘perfect’ body, and that a person’s aesthetic appearance has a direct relationship to their health and wellbeing, as fatphobic, ageist, ableist, gendered, racist dogma.
Unlike other fitness or wellness techniques that sell services to ‘fix’ our exteriors to look more like the ever-elusive ideal body, my coaching sessions hone your ability to listen to your physical impulses and needs, to speak more gently to yourself, and to discover the movement practices that best serve you from one day to the next. Embodiment coaching is an alternative to the white supremacist, capitalistic lie that our bodies are deeply flawed and in need of improvement.
My commitment to anti-white supremacist work extends beyond our sessions to include every aspect of our organization. A large part of the knowledge that informs Embodiment Coaching was learned, appropriated, and outright stolen from communities of color. I am transparent about the lineages, known and hidden, of the modalities I utilize. I also redistribute 10% of the profits from every session to an embodiment and social justice-oriented organization that is facilitated by and serves primarily people of color*.
Embodiment coaching is available on a sliding scale, encouraging clients to spend towards economic justice and contribute resources towards community access when able. The distribution of each fee is shared in detail in pursuit of organizational accountability, and to help clients understand exactly how their money is being allocated.
These measures, along with ample re-education from embodiment experts of color, are part of my continuing commitment to cultivating a brave space for you to reimagine your relationship to your body, and to understand how that relationship is shaped by (often unhealthy and harmful) expectations from the world around you.
